Asian and Middle Eastern Studies
Zoya Street BA (Cantab)
Zoya read Japanese Studies at Trinity College, Cambridge University. She won the Bowen essay prize for an undergraduate essay on Japanese history. She now studies History of Design at the Royal College of Art. An enthusiastic linguist, she can speak Japanese, Hebrew, Spanish and French at varying levels. She is also interested in Israel and Middle Eastern Studies.
Astrophysics
David Ault BA Hons (Cantab), MSc (Manchester), MA (Cantab), Dip HE Acting (TVU)
David studied Maths and then Astrophysics at Cambridge, before doing a Masters in Astronomy at Jodrell Bank with the University of Manchester. Since then he has spent two years training as an actor and had recently returned from a six-month tour of India performing Shakespeare. He is now working as a freelance actor, writer and science communicator.
Biochemistry
Darren Burgess MBiochem (Oxon), PhD
Darren studied Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry at Christ Church, University of Oxford. He was awarded an Open Scholarship for achieving a distinction in his preliminary exams, followed by a first in his final exams. He received an Engelhorn Scholarship to study at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's Watson School of Biological Sciences, New York, USA. There he completed his PhD in Cancer Research. After post-doctoral research at the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre, London, he is currently a scientific editor at Nature Publishing Group, for Nature Reviews Cancer and Nature Reviews Genetics.

David Marshall MBiochem Hons (Oxon)
David studied Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry at Somerville College, Oxford. He is currently a Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council funded graduate student in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Oxford. He is interested in the structure and interactions of membrane proteins.

Katherine Gaynor MBiochem (Oxon)
Katherine studied Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University. At the end of her second year she was successful in achieving a placement with the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) to work in laboratories in Brno, Czech Republic. In October 2007 she was awarded a MRC Studentship enabling her to undertake a three year DPhil in Clinical Medicine at Green Templeton College, University of Oxford.

Jenny Chapman BA Hons (Oxon)
Jenny studied Biology at Magdalen College, Oxford. She was a college Demy (Scholar) from 2007-2009, and was awarded the Matthew Taylor Prize for the best college performance in Prelims in a science subject. She also won a tutorial prize for outstanding work over the course of her degree. She graduated in 2009 with a First Class degree and the Examiner’s prize for meritorious work. She currently works at the Oxford Botanic Gardens.

Robert Colborn BA (Oxon)
Robert read Classics at New College, Oxford. He was awarded an undergraduate scholarship for his performance in Honour Moderations, and won the Gaisford Essay Prize in his Final examinations. He currently holds a postgraduate scholarship at New College, where he continues his studies in Latin and Greek literature.

Sebastian Gertz BA, MPhil, PhD (Cantab)
Sebastian read Philosophy and Classics for his BA at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. He graduated with a 'starred first' and was awarded the college’s highest academic prize, the Schuldham Plate. For his graduate studies, he has specialised in Ancient Philosophy. His MPhil thesis was awarded a faculty prize, and his doctoral thesis on death and immortality has recently published as a book with a leading publisher.
Computer Science
Martin Lester BA (Cantab), MSc (Oxon)
Martin graduated with a BA in Computer Science from Gonville & Caius College, University of Cambridge. After a year in industry, working as a software developer, Martin returned to academia. He completed the MSc in Mathematics and Foundations of Computer Science at St Edmund Hall College, Oxford in 2009. He is currently at Merton College, Oxford, reading for a DPhil in Computer Science.
Earth Sciences
Thomas O’Toole MESc Hons (Oxon)
Tom completed a Masters degree in Earth Sciences at St Anne's College, Oxford University. He was awarded an Exhibition after his second year exams, and ended up with a first class degree, ranked second in his year. Tom won the Atomic Weapons Establishment prize for the best third year performance in mathematics and geophysics and spent a summer working in New York as a Clayman Scholar. He is now back in Oxford studying for a DPhil in global seismology.
Economics
Zdenka Kissova MPhil (Oxon)
Zdenka is a Management (Managerial Economics and Strategy Group) graduate from the London School of Economics and is currently studying towards the MPhil in Economics degree at Oxford. She is a fully supported Weidenfeld Scholar at Oxford and left LSE with the Peter Abell Prize for the best performance on the Programme. She has a working experience in the finance sector and holds a full-time job offer from a London consultancy.

Andrew Mackowski BA (Cantab)
Andrew graduated from Pembroke College, Cambridge and went straight into teaching economics at the RGS in Guildford. He has taught supplementary Oxbridge lessons each year throughout the interview season. He is currently studying part-time for an MSc Development Economics at SOAS, University of London. He has a particular interest in Development Economics and Political Economy.

Adam Baghdadi BA (Oxon)
Adam Baghdadi attended St Paul's School in London before proceeding to Brasenose College, Oxford to read for a degree in Economics and Management. Whilst at Oxford he was the secretary of the University Dramatic Society, and also acted in, directed and produced a number of plays and musicals. He spent his penultimate summer working at the independent investment bank Lazard Ltd. He graduated with double first class honours and currently works as an analyst in Morgan Stanley's investment banking division.
Engineering
Stuart Walker M.Eng (Cantab)
Stuart studied Engineering at Queens’ College, Cambridge University. He studied General Engineering in his first two years before being selected for an exchange with Ecole Centrale Paris, a prestigious Engineering school in France, where he specialised in Mechanical Engineering before returning to Cambridge to complete his Masters Degree. Stuart is now a Design Engineer working towards Chartership accreditation.

Adil Parvez MEng (Oxon)
As a dual British-Canadian national, Adil was born in Wolverhampton and raised in Toronto, Canada for 9 years. He spent the next 7 years of his life in the Middle East, where he sat his IGCSE exams. After returning to the UK, he took his A Level exams before going on to read Engineering, Economics and Management at Lincoln College, Oxford. Adil is currently studying for a CIMA qualification and aims one day to undertake an MBA in the US.

George Reynolds BA Hons (Cantab)
George read English literature at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. He came fourth in his year in part I of the English Tripos, was awarded a Foundation Scholarship, and a year later received a Manners Scholarship after coming fifth in finals. He is currently researching the poets Marianne Moore and Susan Howe as part of the Criticism and Culture MPhil offered by Cambridge’s Faculty of English.

Alice Shone, BA Hons (Cantab)
Alice studied English at St John’s College, Cambridge. She was awarded a scholarship after a distinction in her Preliminary Exams and won a college prize. In her second year she was placed third in the year and was awarded the Chivers Prize for first class performance in the Shakespeare paper, a half share in the Quass Prize as well as the Heineman Shakespeare Prize by the English Faculty. She is currently studying for a Masters degree in London.

David Workman BA (Oxon)
David studied English at St Catherine’s College, Oxford University. He was co-editor of The Oxford Theatre Review for two years, and was involved in student drama as a performer, director and producer. He was also responsible for initiating and devising a number of educational projects for young people in conjunction with both the Oxford Playhouse and the National Theatre. He currently works in the Education department at Shakespeare’s Globe.

Sophie McGrath BA Hons (Oxon)
Sophie McGrath has just completed a degree in English Language and Literature at Somerville College, Oxford University. She was awarded a Coombs Scholarship after a distinction in her Preliminary Exams. She is currently taking a post-university gap year in order to pursue her musical interests, before continuing in academia.
Experimental Psychology
Nicola Byrom BSc
Nicola has a strong interest in exploring unanswered questions and challenging existing ideas. Currently in her final year of a DPhil program in Experimental Psychology, her research focuses on cognitive processes in depression. She has experience in tutoring, lecturing and supervising students in addition to her academic work. Outside the office, she has founded her own charity, SRSH which works across the country to support students with eating disorders.
French
Ed Cripps BA Hons (Oxon)
Ed studied French and Spanish at Trinity College, Oxford University. He was awarded the Douglas Sladen Essay Prize in 2009, given to the best-written essay by a Trinity undergraduate on any subject, for a piece on Cervantes’ Novelas ejemplares; in 2007, he was awarded the Chadwick Exhibition for academic excellence in his Preliminary Exams. He is particularly interested in Cervantes, Molière and 20th Century Spanish American literature. His other main interest is film, in which he is hoping to make a career.

Deborah Woolfson BA (Oxon)
Deborah studied Modern Languages (French & Spanish) at St Anne’s College, Oxford University. In her second year, she was awarded a Heath Harrison Scholarship to undertake a project in Quito, Ecuador, which involved running a summer camp for street children. She is currently editor of the United Nations Environment Programme’s magazine for young people, entitled Tunza.
Geography
Chris Stainton, BA Hons (Oxon), MPhil (Cantab)
Chris studied Geography at Merton College, Oxford, achieving a Distinction in his Preliminary Exams, followed by a First in his Final Exams. Chris was a Postmaster (Senior Scholar) and received two University awards for fieldwork and exam performance. He was also presented with a national prize by the Regional Science Association for his dissertation. Chris then completed an MPhil in Development Studies at Robinson College, Cambridge. Chris received national awards from the Royal Geographical Society at both GCSE and A Level. He now works for a credit hedge fund.

Robert Walker BA (Oxon)
Robert read Geography at St Anne’s College, Oxford University. He spent a year studying Arabic at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, and worked for various organisations including the BBC World Service. He has now returned to Oxford University to read for a Master’s degree in Russian and East European Studies.

Anatole Oudaille-Diethardt, Lic, L ès LC, MSt (Oxon)
After obtaining both the French Baccalauréat and the Austrian Matura, Anatole Oudaille-Diethardt studied at the Classes Préparatoires at the Lycée Henri IV (Paris), obtaining B.A. equivalents in German Literature, French Literature, Classics, and Philosophy. He completed a Master of Studies in European Languages and Literature at St John’s College, Oxford University, and is currently reading for a DPhil in French and German literature.

Thomas Corby BA Hons (Oxon)
Thomas studied Modern History at New College, Oxford University. He was awarded a Scholarship after finishing fourth in his Preliminary Exams. He then went on to take a First Class degree from his finals. He is embarking on a career in the law.

Mike Armstrong BA Hons, MPhil (Cantab)
Mike studied History at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. He graduated in 2006 and completed a Master’s in the following year, for which he was awarded a Charles Whittaker Research Scholarship. He is currently studying the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School, London.

James Kitchen BA MSt (Oxon)
After studying History at Oxford as an undergraduate at Balliol College, James stayed on to complete a Masters in Historical Research and then a DPhil. James is currently researching 19th and 20th century military and imperial history, with a particular focus on the British Imperial Army that fought in Egypt and Palestine during the First World War. As an undergraduate he was awarded the James Gay scholarship. James is currently a member of the International Society for First World War Studies.

Flo Smith BA Hons (Oxon)
Flo studied Modern History at Somerville College, Oxford University. She was awarded a Scholarship after achieving distinction in her Preliminary Examinations, and the Edith Coombs Scholarship in her second year. She currently works in television.

Claire Price BA (Oxon)
Claire Price read History at Oxford University, where she obtained a First Class degree. She was awarded a scholarship for academic achievements after her first year. In her second year, she spent a term studying abroad at Princeton University. She is currently working as an academic tutor and preparing a portfolio to apply for a Master’s degree in Fine Art or Illustration.

Tom Gatten BA (Oxon)
Tom studied Human Sciences at St Catherine’s College, Oxford University. He was awarded an exhibition during his second year and three university prizes in his third, in addition to achieving the top first-class degree in his subject year. Tom has worked for the BBC and the Times of India. He is currently writing for a media industry magazine.

Mary Travers BA (Oxon)
Mary studied Human Sciences at St. John's College, Oxford. She was awarded a scholarship for exceptional academic performance during her first year, and graduated with a first-class honours degree in 2007. She is currently completing a PhD in the genetics of diabetes.

Katie Sissons BA (Oxon)
Katie studied Human Sciences at Jesus College, Oxford. After her Preliminary Examinations, she was awarded a Scholarship, and her third year dissertation was awarded the Aled Davies Prize in Biological Sciences. She is currently working in the field of international public health.
Italian
Karen Wykurz BA (Cantab)
Karen Wykurz studied Russian (post-A level) and Italian (ab initio) at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. Determined to achieve multilingualism and collect as many languages as possible on the way, Karen maintained her A level German during her time at Cambridge, whilst taking up Polish, Arabic and Mandarin Chinese alongside her degree studies. Having recently returned from an independent period of study in Irkutsk, Siberia with a focus on Chinese-Russian relations and improving her Chinese, Karen is currently preparing for further study and a MA in Conference Interpreting.

Nilima Shah BA Hons (Cantab)
Nilima read Land Economy at Magdalene College, Cambridge. She was awarded the Sweet and Maxwell Prize for best performance in Environmental Economics, Law and Policy and the Magdalene Land Economy Prize. She will be undertaking a law conversion course at the College of Law.

Mark Zarwi BA (Oxon)
Mark graduated in 2010 with a First Class degree in Jurisprudence (Law) from Oxford. While at Oxford, Mark was made an Exhibitioner in recognition of consistent academic achievement. He is currently completing the Bachelor of Civil Law Masters at the University of Oxford. Following this, he will commence employment at a leading international law firm.of Law.

Alicia Tew BA Hons (Oxon)
Alicia studied Law at Worcester College, Oxford University. She is currently taking a gap year, tutoring and working in the voluntary sector. She plans to become a barrister.
Linguistics
Oana David MSc (Oxon)
Oana received her Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction from Boston University, with concentrations in anthropology and Japanese language and literature. She is currently reading for the MSc in Modern Japanese Studies at St Antony’s College, University of Oxford, and will be reading for the MSt in General Linguistics and Philology in 2009-2010 at The Queen’s College, Oxford. Her current dissertation examines style-shifting patterns in Japanese discourse.

Femi Fadugba MEng (Oxon)
Femi Fadugba is currently doing his Part II Master’s project in Quantum Mechanics having completed the first three years of his Materials Science degree at St Catherine’s College, Oxford University. He was awarded a number of scholarships and prizes during his time at Oxford having gained a distinction in Preliminary exams and a first in his finals. He also took part in College and University rugby and held the position of JCR President in his 2nd year at Oxford.

Gareth Haslam Bsc Hons (Dunelm), MPhil (Cantab)
Gareth studied Physics at Trevelyan College, Durham University. After obtaining a 1st Class Honours degree he went on to study more about the practical application of science and technology through the MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development at Cambridge University. He is now a PhD student in the Materials Science Department at Cambridge working on hydrogen fuel cells.
Mathematics
Matthew Selfe BA (Oxon)
Matthew graduated from Exeter College, University of Oxford in 2011, having obtained a First Class Honours degree in Mathematics. He was awarded a Fitzgerald Prize for his exam performance. During his time at Oxford, Matthew won the Oxford University Mathematics Summer Essay Competition for his essay on Chaos Theory. He is now training to be an actuary.

Suchita Shah, MA (Cantab) MPhil BMBCh (Oxon) MRCGP
Suchita studied pre-clinical medicine at St. John’s College, Cambridge, specialising in neuroscience, for which she gained a starred First Class degree, coming top in the university. She was subsequently awarded a scholarship to pursue an MPhil in International Relations, before completing her medical degree at The Queen’s College, Oxford. Suchita received a national award in English language and literature at GCSE level and has been featured in the book “Asians in the Millennium – Who’s Who of Asian Achievers” (2000). She currently works as a GP and associate in public health in Oxford, with special interests in global health, health inequalities, medical humanities and education.

Dr Mark Lee BA Hons (Cantab), MB BS (London)
Mark studied Pre-Clinical Medicine at Downing College, Cambridge University specialising in Experimental Psychology in his 3rd Year. He went on to complete his Clinical training at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals Medical School. While at Guy's Hospital, his research into Kidney Transplantation was presented at the American Transplant Congress 2008 in Toronto. He was also selected for a sub-internship placement in Neurology at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital in the US for part of his elective in 2008. Mark qualified in 2009 and is now a junior doctor in the Oxford area.

Aswin Chari BA Hons (Cantab)
Aswin has completed his BA in Medical Sciences from Downing College, Cambridge and is currently pursuing his MBBChir degree at New College, Oxford. Aswin obtained a Whitby Scholarship in each of his three years at Downing College for outstanding examination results and, in 2009, was elected Senior Whitby Scholar.

Dr Lily Li BA, MB Bchir (Cantab)
Dr Lily Li read Medicine at Robinson College, Cambridge, specialising in Philosophy of Science in her third year. During her clinical years she was the Executive Producer of the Cambridge Medicine Journal. She qualified in 2009 and is now a doctor in the North London area.

Niall Dumigan BA (Oxon)
Niall read music at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford. He was active in many university ensembles and co-founded Oxford Baroque, the University’s first ensemble to specialise in historical performance practice. As a composer, he worked with Ensemble ISIS – the university’s contemporary music ensemble, the Oxford Philomusica and the Allegri Quartet. Prior to university, Niall played with the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, acting as principal bassist from 2004-2008. After graduating, he joined the Teach First program and taught music first at a comprehensive school in Coventry and now in Stratford, East London.

Hannah Davis BA Hons (Oxon)
Hannah studied Music at St Catherine’s College Oxford, where she was President of the Music Society. She is particularly interested in educational approaches to music, and the psychology of musical learning. Before her music degree, she completed a preliminary year in Classical Archaeology and Ancient History at Wadham College, Oxford. She is currently a freelance musical director, conductor and percussionist.

Ed Jones BA Hons (Oxon)
Ed studied Music at Christ Church, Oxford where he was also an Academical Clerk in the Cathedral Choir. He has been teaching at Reed’s School, Cobham since September 2006 and he is now Assistant Director of Music there.

Lee Harper BA MSci Hons (Cantab)
Lee studied Natural Sciences at Clare College, Cambridge, specialising in Chemistry and Mathematics. He was awarded college scholarships each year, won the college Lilley prize for Chemistry in both his third and fourth year, as well as winning the departmental Norrish prize for distinction in Physical Chemistry in his fourth year. He is currently reading for a DPhil in Physical and Theoretical Chemistry at Merton College, Oxford, and is also a college tutor teaching Maths and Physics for Chemistry.

Camilla Grundy BA Hons (Cantab)
Camilla studied Natural Sciences at Newnham College, Cambridge University, specialising in History and Philosophy of Science in her third year. Natasha Jackson BA Hons (Oxon)
Natasha read Egyptology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at St. Hilda’s College, Oxford University. She was awarded a Scholarship in Oriental Studies for consistent academic achievement over the duration of the course and won the Arthur Lenman Memorial Prize for achieving a First in her final examinations. Whilst a student at St Hilda’s College she was Charities Representative for the JCR Committee and continues to be active in voluntary work. She currently works as a genealogist.

Isobel Chick BA Hons (Oxon)
Isobel studied Chinese at Pembroke College, Oxford. She was awarded the Brian Wilson Scholarship in Chinese in 2007, and has studied at Peking University and National Taiwan Normal University. She is currently a graduate student in linguistics at University College London.

Jamie studied Philosophy and Theology at Oxford before taking an MA in Philosophy at the University of Chicago, where he was awarded a graduate award for a year’s research in the United States. He is currently completing a DPhil in moral and religious philosophy at Oxford as an AHRC (Arts and Humanities Research Council) doctoral scholar. Jamie studied Philosophy and Theology at Oxford before taking an MA in Philosophy at the University of Chicago, where he was awarded a graduate award for a year’s research in the United States. He is currently completing a DPhil in moral and religious philosophy at Oxford as an AHRC (Arts and Humanities Research Council) doctoral scholar. He also teaches at both Oxford and Oxford Brookes Universities.

Matt studied Philosophy and Theology at Oxford University. He went on to study for an MA in Contemporary Global Ethics at King’s College London, from which he graduated with Distinction. Matt currently works for the BBC.

Tat-Seng studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Christ Church College, Oxford University, and was awarded a Scholarship after a distinction in his Preliminary Exams. Whilst at university, he was involved with a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including the United Nations Association, PPE Society, Home Learning Scheme and Christ Church JCR. He currently works as a management consultant with Monitor Group.

Jamie Hill MPhys (Oxon)
Jamie studied Physics at Jesus College, Oxford University. He was awarded a Scholarship after a distinction in his Preliminary Exams, and has won both the Marion Bradley Prize for an essay on a topic in physics, and the D L Chapman Memorial Prize for a composition of English verse. He is returning to Oxford to study for his doctorate.

Paul studied Physics at St Hugh’s College, Oxford. In his final year project he studied wave generated power and the role it can play in the UK’s renewable energy targets. He has remained living in Oxford, having gained a job in medical physics there. As part of this, he is being funded to undertake a Masters degree in radiation physics part time at UCL.

Gregory Patton BA (Cantab)
Gregory graduated in 2008 from Jesus, Cambridge with a First Class degree in Social and Political Sciences (now Politics, Psychology and Sociology). He was awarded six academic prizes and scholarships including the prize for the top result in Sociology and Psychology in his second year. His academic work has been published and used in by academics in journals such as Cambridge Journal of Economics and the Lancet. Since graduating he worked as a political campaign manager during the General Election and is now training to be a lawyer with an international firm.

Paula Willars BA Hons (Cantab)
Paula studied Social and Political Sciences at Newnham College, Cambridge. She was awarded the Anne Jemima Clough prize two consecutive years for her first class results. After graduating she moved to Guatemala where she became fluent in Spanish and worked for several charities.

James Dibb-Simkin BA Hons (Cantab)
James studied Part I Economics at Queens’ College, Cambridge before switching to Social and Political Sciences for Part II of his degree. Currently working as a management consultant, James has developed a successful strategy for interviews which has ensured him a consistently high success rate when applying for jobs and positions.

Kathryn Skelton BA (Oxon)
Kathryn studied Psychology & Physiology at Somerville College, Oxford University. She was awarded a Scholarship for her academic performance in Psychology Part I Examinations, and went on to focus on biological psychology and neuroscience in her final year. She currently works in professional services at the Open University as a Strategic Analyst, and is studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Development Management.
Russian
Karen Wykurz BA (Cantab)
Karen Wykurz studied Russian (post-A level) and Italian (ab initio) at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. Determined to achieve multilingualism and collect as many languages as possible on the way, Karen maintained her A level German during her time at Cambridge, whilst taking up Polish, Arabic and Mandarin Chinese alongside her degree studies. Having recently returned from an independent period of study in Irkutsk, Siberia with a focus on Chinese-Russian relations and improving her Chinese, Karen is currently preparing for further study and a MA in Conference Interpreting.
Spanish
Ed Cripps BA Hons (Oxon)
Ed studied French and Spanish at Trinity College, Oxford University. He was awarded the Douglas Sladen Essay Prize in 2009, given to the best-written essay by a Trinity undergraduate on any subject, for a piece on Cervantes’ Novelas ejemplares; in 2007, he was awarded the Chadwick Exhibition for academic excellence in his Preliminary Exams. He is particularly interested in Cervantes, Molière and 20th Century Spanish American literature. His other main interest is film, in which he is hoping to make a career.

Deborah Woolfson BA (Oxon)
Deborah studied Modern Languages (French & Spanish) at St Anne’s College, Oxford University. In her second year, she was awarded a Heath Harrison Scholarship to undertake a project in Quito, Ecuador, which involved running a summer camp for street children. She is currently editor of the United Nations Environment Programme’s magazine for young people, entitled Tunza.

Richard Williams BA Hons (Oxon)
Richard studied Theology at Trinity College, Oxford, and obtained a First in his Final Examinations. He specialised in Hinduism, and is currently undertaking the MPhil in Modern South Asian Studies at Wolfson College. As an undergraduate he was JCR President, sat on the committee responsible for Trinity’s Commemoration Ball, and had an active role in the University’s drama scene.
